Fancy names and text
Some styles show as empty boxes on devices whose fonts lack those characters. Screen readers often read fancy letters one by one or skip them, so keep anything important in plain text too.

Steam's name limit is widely reported as 32, and players say it counts bytes, not letters. Plain letters are 1 byte; most fancy ones are 3 or 4, so a styled name runs out sooner. Valve doesn't publish the limit, so treat the counts as a guide and check on Steam.

How do I get a fancy font on my Steam name?
Type your name, pick a style and copy it into your Steam profile name. The letters are ordinary Unicode characters, so no font needs installing.
What BBCode works in a Steam info box?
Steam supports headings, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoilers, quotes, lists, tables, code and links. The buttons insert them and the preview shows the result.
Will fancy letters show for everyone?
Almost always. A few rare styles can show as boxes on older devices, so check how your name looks after saving.
